These crochet projects use two traditional pattern stitches—single and half double—to very contemporary effect. You’ll get to practice working in the round in two ways—in a circular spiral and in a tubular spiral. Plus you’ll learn a couple of nifty beginnings.

What you need to know: chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch, and working in rounds.

• Small/Med Beanie: To fit 20-22"/51-56cm head; approx. 20"/51cm around x 7"/18cm deep (center of crown to edge).
• Med/Large Beanie: To fit 22-24"/56-61cm head; approx 22"/56cm around x 8"/20cm deep (center of crown to edge).
• Cowl: Approx. 44"/112cm around x 10"/25cm deep.
